Easter 2016

Like all good photographers, I had the girls face the sun. :)
I used beach totes instead of baskets. They got the standard books and candy. I got Sophie a small dry erase board and markers. Heidi got a children's gardening set.
Just a few photos of the girls (+ my mom) hunting for eggs. Heidi is "reading" her Easter card from her great-grandma in the first photo. I though it was so cute. The last pic is Sophie going through eggs for her money and candy.

We did the egg hunt on Saturday because the drive back home would make Sunday overwhelming. When we got home on Sunday I hid the real eggs Sophie had colored throughout our yard and then she hid them for me. Between my basket, Grandma's basket and Great-Grandma's toys, they made out like bandits. The grandmas can definitely chill out with their Easter gifts. Overall, it was a pretty good Easter. :)

Be The Change You Wish To See

I'm linking up with Sarah Emily Blogs and Girl Talk Blog for the 52 Week Blogger Challenge.  Week 13's prompt is Be The Change You Wish To See. Fortunately their prompt doesn't say the "in the world" at the end AND the link-up says it is open to interpretation. "In the world" just seemed to add a lot of pressure. So, I am going to talk about change that is little less worldly and instead more personal.

I think the biggest change I need in my life is to take control of my health. Giving up soda was a big goal for me and it has been almost 2 months since I had one. It was definitely a change for the better, but it's not like that was my only bad habit. I have many to add to add to the list, including that that I don't exercise regularly. Randomly I may go to the gym, do a Jillian Michaels video or walk, but no real commitment. That is definitely a change in my life that I want to see happen.

With next month just being 2 days away that it one of my biggest goals:  exercising more and including the kids when I do it. It just seems that if they aren't included in some way, it's less likely to happen. So that's it. That's the change I wish to see in my life right now.  Completely unrelated, but if you are looking for a link-up or prompts, check out the 52 Week Blogger Challenge by clicking the button below.

Happy Easter

Just a quick post.
I hope you all are having a wonderful Easter.

My 2016 To Do List

I have never really made a bucket list. I know things I want to do in my life. I want to go to Greece, find something really old using a metal detector, throw out a message in a bottle....I could go on, but I won't right now. I just know for me that making a list like that would seem daunting. And honestly, I probably wouldn't follow through. So I made a list of things I want/need to do this year that are very attainable, but I seem to always put off. Just a heads up, some of these things aren't exciting, but I should probably do them.Others I just want to learn how to do, go visit, accomplish or experience.  I know you get it, so I will stop explaining.

A Little Bit Of My 2016 To Do List
Write180 post
Take Sophie to American Girl Chicago
 Get glasses
Paint kitchen
Take girls to Science Central
 Complete a 5k
Clear all credit card debt
Take girls to Boonshoft Museum of Discovery
Make bath bombs
 Have an indoor herb garden
Leave a note in a book at a bookstore
Pay it forward at the drive-thru
Go to the zoo
Frame family handprints
Send a secret to PostSecret
 Buy new cups
Give up soda
Make Sophie a dentist appt.
Make the girls "baby boxes"
Learn how to make a classic drink
I might make a page with the entire list. Maybe looking at it more often will remind me to do some of them. Like right now, looking at this, I know making the boxes for each of the girls would be so easy. Why can't I remember to do it? Maybe once I tackle some of my small list I won't be intimidated by the big list.

Got a list like this? Leave a comment with some of your "to do" list or link to you list.  I love being inspired by others resolutions and 101 lists.

A letter to Heidi on her 15 month birthday

Dear Heidi,
You are 15 months old today. I didn't intend to post a letter when it's not a major milestone, but I couldn't help it. Right now you are sitting in your high chair eating macaroni and cheese. You hold your baby fork to poke at it and then grab the noodles up with your other hand. Then your cheese covered face lights up as you gives a big smile. You're a carb lover like your momma. I get it. Pasta is good.
You went to the doctor for your 15 month check up and 2 shots. It went as well as could be expected at this age.

You are getting such a personality. You love your big sister, but when you don't like what she is doing, you definitely stick up for yourself. You also get jealous is she gets near me. You let out a screech and make sure I make room for you too. You can climb onto one of our lower couches and you are trying really hard to get up on top of the taller one.

You love bananas. You eat them more than anything. You also still love sweet potatoes, carrots, spaghetti and grapes. I feel sometimes like you love playing with everything but your toys. Lids, measuring cups, hair brushes, and remote controls seem to be your favorite things.

Weight Updates
Birth:  7lbs0.oz
12 months: 22.lbs. 0oz
15 months: 23lbs 4oz
Not much weight gain in the last 3 months, but you are a terribly picky eater right now.

Height Update
Birth: 19.5 inches
12 months: 28.75 inches
15 months: 29.5 inches
I have to be honest, I keep wondering if the height was taken correctly to me. You seem SO much taller than you were just 3 months ago.

I love seeing how you change and grow more into your own person. You bring so much happiness to our family.

I love you lots.
Mom

$10 @ Target

Sweet Turtle Soup
Last month I think I may have found my favorite blog link up ever: $10 @ Target. I knew I wanted to do it this month. So the girls and I made Target a part of our errands on Saturday. But I have to be honest, we live kind of far from Target, so I can't just go there for a few things. It doesn't make sense. So as I was shopping for things we needed, I separately shopped for $10.00 worth of  "extras". Is that what everyone else does? I kind of  felt like a cheater. Maybe next month I will be in that area for something else and can swing over there. Back to this month, here is what I snagged this month for a grand total of $9.49:

5 On Friday:March 18, 2016 Edition

In case you missed it, I did a 10 on Tuesday post about Celeb Crushes. It was a fun post to write. I realized that even though I forget where I keys a lot I still now most of the words to Mmmbop. Figure that out.
http://www.eastvine.blogspot.com/2016/03/10-celebrity-crushes-in-90s2000s.html

Also, if you are on the market for some baby gear, check out 5 Items You Can Live Without and my review of the HappyWrap. It only took me 9 months to finally post the review. Yea, that's all.

Last week I was on the Ulta app and got a great deal on a hair tool storage tote. The total with the lip cube after my coupon was $7.89. I saved $21.59, but I did have to 5.99 shipping.  If you are looking for one, they are still on the Ulta app under sale.

I also did this post on one of my favorite recipes: Easy Chocolate Eclaire Dessert. It's so easy and would be great for Easter.

And last, I need some advice. Do you do professional Easter photos? We did family Christmas photos in November, the girls had twinkle light photos in December, and Heidi had birthday photos in Jan. It feels like a bit much, but I want them too. I'm wondering what other mommas do. Let me know.

Easy & Delicious Chocolate Eclair In A Pan

Warning: Amateur Food Photography And Cooking Ahead.

I have been making Chocolate Eclair In A Pan for years and before that another relative made it until she passed away. There were a couple of holidays between her passing and me getting the recipe, but eventually I did. After reading the recipe I realized why she made it every year. Besides being delicious, it was so simple to make AND it needs to be made in advance. This would be a perfect Easter dinner dessert. Plus, its fairly inexpensive if you go generic with the ingredients. And kids can help. I could keep going, but I won't. So without further ado, here is Chocolate Eclair In A Pan.

Happy St. Patricks Day!

Things went a little smoother last year.

Hope ya'll have a great day!

What's Happening: A late recap

Let's just start with the internet not working at my house this weekend. Of course I could check everything on my phone, buts its not the same. The tech wasn't supposed to be here until yesterday. I guess the internet not working isn't an emergency. But on Monday I convinced Ryan to get me a phone cord. Getting a new phone cord worked.

So that means I'm catching up a bit.

Friday night just kind of went by. I had a sore throat and went to bed early with assistance for Nyquil.

Saturday I did a Goodwill run. I love going by there to see if there are any inexpensive things that I can attempt to makeover. I found a couple things I will share later.
Sophie had a busy Saturday. I took her bowling with her girl scout troop. They had plenty of fun, but I'm not going to lie-- 2 hours of watching kids bowl felt like 8 hours for me. After that we went home and got her ready to go to the Daddy/Daughter Dance. It was so cute and she had a lot of fun. Doesn't she look so grown up?

Sunday we hung out at home. I made chicken noodle soup for lunch. It was perfect for the rainy day. I also did lots and lots of laundry. I finally feel caught up on that.

The time change is killing me. And last week I got a new baby carrier. More about that later.
 Happy Wednesday.

10 Celebrity Crushes In The 90s/2000s

This post is inspired by and linked up at the 10 on Tuesday. Happy Tuesday!

In no particular order, here are 10 celebrity crush I (and maybe you) had in 90s/2000s:

1990s Boy Band 1. Joey McIntyre-- I was really little around this time. I think Joey was just my favorite because he was the youngest in NKOTB.

2. Charlie Sheen--I was kid and I thought he was the coolest guy at the time (back in the Major League days). I still like him. I just can't help it.

3. Ian Zeiring--Steve was definitely my favorite 90210 guy, but it was hard to not like all of them.  Honestly, I can't believe my mom let me watch it. I was way to young. What was she thinking?!?

 4. Heath Ledger--Remember seeing 10 Things I Hate About You as a teen?

/
Hanson
5. Hanson
Zac, Issaac, and Taylor. Mmmbop? Ok, I was a super crazy fangirl. They came around at the perfect time during my preteen years. They were hands down my favorite on this list. Did you see the words super and crazy before fangirl? I cried when I got tickets to their concert and had Hanson scrapbooks. Yep, plural. Scrapbooks.
I still heart them and occasionally have to google them to see what they are doing

6. Charles Hunnam -- Ok, he's a more recent, maybe even now crush. Still not sure? He's Jax on Sons of Anarchy.  Do I need to explain this one?

7. George Clooney-- Have you noticed that aging only seems to help him? He's just so debonair.

Joey Lawrence
8. Brody Jenner--I'm not sure he counts as a celebrity or even a cruch, but back in the day when The Hills was on, he definitely didn't hurt a scene.

9. Joey Lawrence--whoa!

10. JTT--A little cryptic, but if you know who this is then you probably bought a Tiger Beat in 90s.

Ok, did you get a little nostalgic? I'm going to bet that some of you have no idea who half the people are on the list. Let me know if I missed anyone in the comments.

5 Baby Items That You CAN Live Without

There is so much baby gear on the market, but let's get real, there is too much. These are 5 items that I have/had that we could have lived without:

Baby Items You Don't Need

Baby Items You Don't Need by brittney-vine

Bottle Warmer
It's just as simple to microwave a cup of water and then place the bottle in it. And these aren't guaranteed to not overheat the bottle. So, it just as safe to feel the water in the cup before putting the bottle in it.
Complicated Baby Baths
It's so simple and easy to bath a baby.  Don't complicate it. I actually got two baths at my baby shower and opted to return this one. The other one was simple, but even it wasn't used as often I thought. Frequently a warm wash cloth with baby soap is all use need.
Expensive Diaper Disposals
I know some people swear by these, but the idea of buying an expensive trash can that requires expensive trash bags is kind of crazy. The less expensive ones will require taking the trash out at least twice a week, but that's just a good idea anyway.
Baby Shoes
So cute, right? But let's get real, not necessary.  I didn't think about it with my first one, but babies don't need shoes until they walk. So don't feel like you need to get them.  Get them if you want them. I have bought so many, but both my girls only wore each pair a few times (if that).
Moses Basket
I wanted one with my first daughter and never got it. After 2 babies and a few years parenting under my belt I know these just aren't necessary. They are cute, but are you really going to carry your baby around this way?. Most people have infant carseat/carriers, swings, basinets, cribs, strollers etc. that are so much more useful.

Let me know if you used any of these items? Got anything to add to the list? Let me know!

Happy Friday! Today I'm sharing some of my life with you and a little of my blogging history.

I'm Brittney, the person behind Off The Vine. I am a thirty-something, stay-at-home mom in Indiana. I haven't always stayed at home. I have been a working mom too. I love blogging, but honestly, probably love reading blogs more.
A Brief Blogging History
Remember this?
I got my first blog here on Blogger in 2005 (11 years!). My first blog is still out there. So embarrassing. Way back in my teens I used Xanga and Live Journal. This blog began in 2010 when Sophie was two and mommy blogs were really taking off. It's changed look and name a couple of times. I have cleaned out some old posts too. But it is still a place I document my life and connect with other bloggers.

Now for the good stuff...

I'm a beauty product junkie, lover of craft supplies, shopping and cheesecake.

I dream of having a super organized & beautiful house like the ones on Pinterest, but most days my floor is covered with toys. It's kind of a work in progress.

Last, but definitely not least, meet my family:  Ryan, Sophia and Heidi. These are definitely my fave people.
Heidi

So, that's the basics. Thanks for stopping by!

The Happy Wrap: Baby Product Review

Six years ago when I had Sophia the baby carrying trend hadn't really taken off and my experience with my carrier was so-so. I was willing to try again, but wanted to try something different. Then during one of my last minute panic-omg-I'm-having-a-baby shopping moments I found the
 Happy Wrap.

Good things about it:
  • Soft
  • Made from organic bamboo
  • Stretchy
  • Lots of color and patterns
  • Machine washable
  • It's very comfortable and the fabric is breathable
  • It's a one size fits all kinda thing (no need to try to figure out your size like other wraps)
  • The Happy Wrap is a life saver when you need to get stuff done around the house, want to sit down at the computer, walk around the store with out the car seat hogging the cart....I could go on, but I bet you get it.
  • Very reasonably priced: 48.00

The Not-So Good:
  • It takes a little practice but you will get the hang of it.
  • It can start to lose the stretch. Washing it returns it to normal.
  • The fabric is LONG. It can be difficult (not impossible) to put on in the parking lot if you are about to head into a store . It will end up on the ground. It is easier to just wear it when leaving the house.
  • Limited use. I quit using when Heidi was about 6 months old.

My Experience: The first few times I used it I just couldn't trust it. I only used it when I was sitting down and wanted my hands free to do other things. After a week or so of using it every day I got used to it and learned how I liked to put it on. The key is to make it tight so the baby and you both feel secure.   I can't stress this part enough. Once I got that, I liked it.

Overall:
There isn't one wrap that does everything. This wrap has has a few downsides, but they don't compete with the perks. This wrap is perfect for my every day needs---which includes keeping my baby snuggled up next to me.

Do you have a favorite wrap? Have you tried the Happy Wrap? Anyone have carriers that you can have your baby on your back or forward facing?

5 on Friday: March 4, 2016 Edition

Happy Friday! I'm ready to jump right into the 5 on Friday, so here it goes...

[one] Baby Picture Overload
We got Heidi's one year photos back. I thought I would share a few. She isn't a smiley girl when she is in a new situation, so I was kind of worried about how they would turn out. I am so happy them.

[two] Car Seat Shopping
So stressful! I had it narrowed down to two and stared at them for like 20 minutes. Then I picked the Safety First, got it home and it sits to awkward in our seats. I liked the Evenflo but was afraid it was too big and would make it where the front seat couldn't move. I really prefer the forward facing ones. They are less bulky.  But she won't be able to stay in her current seat until she is 2 and I like the rear facing recline. I guess we we could buy a forward facing next year if we don't like this one. Just feels like a lot of money for 1 year.
[three] Lap Sit
I took Heidi to her first lap sit. It took her awhile to get into it, but about half way through it she was clapping with the songs.
[Four] Winter
So last Friday I posted about Sophie only going to school on Friday because of scheduled days off/ snow days. They ended up canceling Friday! She had a whole week off.
